What is a doula?

A doula is an advocate for gentle and satisfying childbirth experiences. She is skilled in providing education and encouragement to women before, during, and after childbirth. A labor doula provides a constant presence throughout childbirth, is there to give both emotional and physical support, and to help women to celebrate the strength and wisdom of their body.

A doula's role during birthing time:

create a relaxing environment
offer reassurance
guide you through visualizations, breath work, and position changes
suggest various pain coping techniques
use aromatherapy and hydrotherapy
offer soothing touch and massage
instill in you the confidence to gain informed consent
suggest ways for your partner to be more involved
help to prepare you for your birth through education, discussion, and various resources
help to facilitate breastfeeding and infant bonding

Doula Services include: Three prenatal doula meetings, birth support, and postpartum followup.
